This Creativity Post has a couple different ideas going on as I’m still not sure what direction I’d take it in yet. The basic idea is that these two ladies are BFF and were invited to someone’s house during the summer.
But they can’t leave the property.
And the backyard has a fake, staged feel to it.
The grass isn’t real and while the pool is real and they enjoy using it most days, it has a weird feel to it. Like those pool displays at the malls back in the day. They’re real but they don’t belong in that place. That’s the vibe of the backyard. Like it was created to pass off as something else.
Maybe it’s even enclosed by glass making it a greenhouse/ conservatory room instead a true backyard.
I think this story would be set in New Mexico or Nevada. Maybe in an area in Vegas even depending on how I tie it into The Merc Series Universe as that would help explain the weird backyard vibes. This house isn’t in a place that has an ocean or beach that can just be gone to.
That would also help it stand apart from other ideas I have that are similar to this.
My other idea is the ladies are still BFF, but this is their house instead of them staying at someone’s house for the summer. And they chose to never leave their house. They don’t have agoraphobia they just never have a reason to leave and don’t like to. They have the money and the means to have everything just brought to them.
I think the second idea would be easier to work with, but the first idea feels like it would be a fun challenge to try and write a story that’s weird but makes sense.
Like why can’t they leave the house and why is the backyard so fake feeling? And how could I tie this into The Merc Series Universe so that it makes sense and has relevance?
The other question to answer is who are the girls? Are they important characters or part of important families or are they just normal everyday people living in The Merc Series Universe. I do feel like this idea has potential.
