This is another one of my completely random ideas and trying to see if I can make a story about a couple that owns a food truck tie into The Merc Series Universe somehow.
My first thought would be to make them business partners and not a couple. There’s no romantic angle at play here. She’s single and he might be married.
To tie it into The Merc Series Universe, I would have her past be important. I’m thinking she worked at an important company before she bought the food truck.
She wasn’t a CEO but was definitely upper management and played an important role.
Something happened at the company, (most likely a bad thing) and she quits to escape/avoid the fallout of it.
Depending on how I want her character to come across, she might actually be involved in the bad thing and still feels guilty about her role in it. Or she didn’t do anything specific but didn’t want to get caught up in all of it and turned into the scapegoat so to speak.
The food truck purchase was something she had wanted to do as a childhood dream with her friend (or old boyfriend) but they died years ago and this was her way of fulfilling a promise to them and herself.
The guy is a professional chef who worked at a fancy restaurant that she used to dine at when she was at her old job. They became causal friends at first then she brought him on to help her with the food truck.
She has plenty of money saved up or invested, so the food truck isn’t really a money/life supporting job for her. The food truck does do way better business than either of them expected though and they have a bunch of regulars they really enjoy serving.
The plot would be a ‘past catching up to them’ sort of thing, most likely her past from her company job but I could see a version where the twist is it’s something from the chef’s past instead not hers.
All in all, I see potential for this idea.
