This Creativity Post idea will start out simple/straight forward enough with mercs moving into a town with their gun truck.
I would have them be a solid, well-trained mercenary unit. They’ve done stuff like this before and have good, reliable equipment, and are well supplied too.
Everything about this mission/job seems run of the mill to them. There’s nothing to worry about besides some disgruntled locals fighting back but they’re not posing much of a challenge.
Depending on what the background is for the job, the locals could be criminals still holding out in this area/town. I see the mercs being more likely the ‘good guys’ but I’m not completely committed to that option.
At some point in the story, like the 20% mark, things take an unexpected turn for the mercs, and a new enemy has appeared. One they weren’t expecting to fight.
I’m thinking drones of some sort, as pic 2 has them aiming up towards the sky. What makes things harder is that it’s some new kind of drone they’ve never seen before and they’re struggling against it (or them if I use multiple drones).
They have to retreat and come up with a new gameplan before the drone(s) take them and their truck out.
I see this story idea being a good mix of quiet build up then sudden bursts of action scenes then quiet recovery.
The mercs will have new goals with trying to avoid the drone(s) and figure out who’s controlling them and why they’re getting targeted by them.
This will be in addition to still dealing with their primary job of securing the town they entered on top of everything else.
