I don’t have many animal characters in The Merc Series and saw these pics as a good way to explore an idea using one.
I’m thinking the setting would be Alaska or Washington state. Somewhere remote but not Maine or the Northeast. The opposite coast.
I’m leaning towards Alaska as I see the woman leaving behind her old life to start anew somewhere. Maybe she has a friend who already lives in Alaska and that’s how she ends up there and with the dog.
The dog becomes her loyal companion and goes everywhere with her.
The story would follow a snapshot of their life together as they live there for several years and would touch on a few key moments here and there from a bird’s eye view instead of my normal day by day breakdown.
Eventually though her past catches up to her even in the remote spot she’s in.
I’m thinking it’s her husband who she either thought was dead or was trying to hide from. Depending on which direction I go in will change the story greatly. Most likely he’s a hitman or assassin for his career which would tie this idea into The Merc Series better. Maybe the dog was originally his. Unless I go with her getting the dog in Alaska.
The dog will play a big role in this story helping her (and her husband if he’s good). I don’t see the dog being the weak link here and he would survive whatever trouble befalls his owner(s). But maybe could be left alone by the end of the story depending on how I have it play out.
