Tonight’s post is a character idea one. Calling this one the ‘Farmer’s Daughter’. We’ll call her Holly for the purpose of this post but that’ll probably change since I’m pretty sure I’m already using that name somewhere else. ?
The rough idea I’m working with as of now is that Holly’s father was friends with Megan’s father and they formed a secret alliance of sorts. Her father was ex-military, not sure what branch yet but thinking Army or maybe Air Force for something different. Once he got out of the military he moved up Maine, where Megan’s father bought the farm for them to live on in exchange for them running it and taking care of things. They became a ‘prepper family’ before becoming a ‘prepper family’ was the cool thing to do. ?
Megan now simply refers to them as ‘The Caretakers’ in all her notes. Sean interacts with Holly the most as he makes the most supply runs to Megan’s secret project up Maine and stops by their farm on the way to get stuff from them and make sure they’re doing okay.
Holly is headstrong and runs a tight ship around the farm and doesn’t take any crap from those that try to treat her as ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’ She takes the defense of the farm and their large hidden cache of food and supplies very serious. She’s already been in several firefights against thieves and members of a Canadian based militia group that’s been coming across the border to set up their own hideouts.
Holly’s father worries that his little girl is missing out on some of life’s better/fun moments because she has to run the farm as he’s getting too old to keep up with everything. He blames himself for not pushing her to go away to college with her friends after her mother died. Instead she stayed behind to look after him and the farm.
Holly knows she can’t get her dad to stop feeling this way but she’s not bitter or resentful at all and is very happy with her life. She’s doing what she loves everyday with complete freedom while her friends who went to college struggle to find work and have a mountain of debt that they have no hope of ever paying off. Two things Holly never has to worry about.
She likes when Sean visits and tends to show her ‘softer’ side around him. She tends to get nervous and stress out a bit during Nick’s visits and is always relieved when he’s gone despite Nick’s attempts to get her to relax and say more than yes sir no sir answers.
Megan sees no problem with how Holly handles things and is quite happy with the arrangements they have. What those arrangements are exactly only Megan and Holly know as she has recently taken over all aspects of the farm to help ease the load on her father’s shoulders.
