Creativity Post 24

Tonight’s post is less a location piece idea and more of a plot/mission type idea. This one we’ll call ‘The Warehouse Raid’ mission type in which a group of mercenaries are hired to steal/secure a large cache of weapons/equipment.

One of the main characters in the 2nd book in The Merc Series, is Emily Panos, one of the world’s biggest arms dealers. She’s known for hiring mercenaries to raid armory depots and clean them out, especially in warzones where the security is lax or non-existent. She also has a special team of highly trained operatives that break into more secured locations to acquire more advanced weapons. More on them in a future post.

She’s also known to have large caches of weapons hidden in various warehouses and other locations around the world. Some of these are heavily guarded, others are hidden in plain sight with no security so as to not draw attention to them. Her reputation is such that most mercs and criminals have to think long and hard about if the payout is worth raiding a warehouse that could belong to Emily Panos.

Now change the character who owns the place or wants it stolen and it’s a completely different story/feel then if the warehouse belonged to Ms. Panos.

This pic could easily be an abandoned storage warehouse in the Middle East or maybe somewhere in America like Texas, Arizona, Nevada. It looks bright and sunny outside and hot. There’s several ideas right there just by changing the location of this one warehouse. Then change who is stealing it and why. Maybe it’s not mercenaries, maybe the CIA or Special Forces are sent in to secure the place. If it is in America that opens up a whole other set of questions as to why it’s that important for them to get involved. Keep in mind the warehouse could also store any kind of weapons too. It doesn’t have to be just guns, used or brand new. Maybe it’s the storage facility for drones or other advanced gear.

With a few simple tweaks and changes here and there, this idea could generate easily a dozen different stories alone and while they might share the same overall ‘plot’ of ‘Warehouse Raid’ the characters included in each story and the ‘why’ of it, can make each one feel different and fresh.
