While I’m sure this is a pic of soldiers in Iraq (maybe), I’m thinking that they’ll actually be in an American city. Not sure which one yet but Marshal Law has been declared and the National Guard has been deployed.
This story would have a slow build to it. It wouldn’t just start with troop transports rolling into the city. Though that idea could work for other stories.
The city would have been suffering from all kinds of attacks and chaos for at least several weeks by different kinds of groups, sometimes working together, sometimes not. This would be the type of environment that ‘The Rot’ would be all over and probably had a hand in starting/causing it, along with several other groups to be determined.
The final straw was a huge attack on the police. SWAT and riot police were involved. The fighting/shooting was seen live on social media. It was a war zone on American soil and the city lost the battle/war.
Now back to the pic, these guys are one of the many troop transports coming in and the vibe is already that we’ve won, the troops are here, order is restored.
I’m thinking the opposite happens though, most of the troops haven’t even gotten to their base and get ambushed in their transports.
These guys are scouting ahead for what remains of the squad, maybe several others and some wounded guys too. They’re trying to make their way to a hospital for help and have to cut through a ‘No GO Area’ for a short cut.
They’re cut off from everyone and are alone/surrounded.
The story/scene has an almost creepy/dread vibe as they keep moving to stay out of the sight of the groups/gangs roaming the street.
Now the questions are, do they make it to the hospital? Do they survive? What if they get trapped somewhere and a search and rescue team is sent out?
This is definitely a story I’ll be writing in the future once I have more material to go with it.
