So my first reaction when I saw this pic was, meh it’s teenagers, can’t use that. But then I thought, why not? What’s funny is my initial reaction is actually how I’m going to use this idea.
It’s Summer time and these kids just finished high school and are going to college in the fall. One of them was given a graduation present of staying at the beach for an X amount of time.
A week? Two weeks? A month? Not sure yet.
The main character of the story though will be the guy staying next door to them. Those porches look pretty close to their neighbors, so I can see the kids being loud and acting like teenagers. Lots of PDAs.
The neighbor though is actually a hitman on a job. Or maybe a bodyguard. Two different ways we could go here.
Option 1 is the kids aren’t a big focus but they are causing him problems one way or another, bothering him with their antics, etc.
Option 2, which I’m leaning towards, the kids are important. Their parents are rich/important. Not sure whose yet, and the hitman is actually there to keep an eye on them.
Maybe he’s between jobs or injured from his last job and he’s recovering at the beach house and this is a way for him to make some easy money.
The next step would be to flesh out the kid’s backgrounds/parents more and who’s after them and why. And then figure out how I could tie this into anything else going on in The Merc Series world.
The last part isn’t as important since I’d rather the story come first than trying to shoehorn it in somewhere just to be clever. I do see this being a Summer story. Probably 2015 but who knows. ?
