For this one I’m thinking of going a different route.
The guy is a former Marine, maybe, and once out of the service, he went back home to the States to help take care of his parents. They were getting older and he helped them with their farm/store. Not sure yet but leaning towards a small town America kind of place.
Somehow he meets the girl. I’m thinking he saves her life. She’s rich and as a thank you, she pays for his parents. Maybe pays off their mortgage/debt? Whatever it was that was keeping him in small town America, she fixes for him.
She then offers him a job to be her bodyguard. Her old one was killed, that’s why he saved her. He agrees and moves back to New York with her. She’s really a member of a crime family, hence the wealth and the enemies after her.
He doesn’t know that/find out about it, until after he falls in love with her and by then he doesn’t care anymore. He continues to train himself and get better and better. Soon he’s one of the best bodyguards working for the family.
At some point the family is targeted by someone. A Rival family framing them to the police, the FBI? Not sure yet. But the law gets involved. For this pic I’m thinking it’s almost Christmas time and these two have snuck off together and are in the middle of their time alone when the FBI breaks down their door.
He starts fighting them and maybe even killing them, to keep her safe.
Not sure what happens from there. But the theme, if you will, is how a guy, who would be considered a ‘good guy’, has now slowly become a ‘bad guy’ even though he doesn’t see himself that way.
